The Rio Dulce is a river located in the department of Izabal, Guatemala, between Lake Izabal and Amatique Bay about 43 km long.
One of the first protected areas in Guatemala since 1955. It has 7,200 hectares, home to aquatic and estuarine mangroves. It is the habitat of the manatee, and acutus crocodile species.
The canyon at the mouth of the river on the Bay offers a unique scenic beauty of its vegetation and it's a refuge for many sea birds.
A Manatee Biotope only accessible by water, either from the village of Rio Dulce, Livingston Township or from Puerto Barrios. The village Rio Dulce and Livingston offer tours across the river and the canyon. Both localities have hotel services and food for all categories.
On it, is the largest bridge in Guatemala that measures 1563 m long and 45 meters high on the Rio Dulce.
